Finish Strong While Preparing for What's Next

As October comes to a close, you may feel pulled in two directions. There are goals you still want to accomplish before December 31, and there are ideas stirring in your heart for the coming year. Add holiday responsibilities to the mix, and it can become difficult to decide where to place your attention.

You can give both seasons a place on your calendar. Your current business needs purposeful action, and your future deserves thoughtful consideration. A realistic plan allows you to serve customers, pursue opportunities, and begin exploring what you want your business and life to look and feel like in 2027.

As we conclude our October theme, “Finish Like A Queen: Market, Sell & Prepare for What's Next,” let's connect the work before you with the future you want to build. Start by choosing what deserves your attention now, then create space to consider the experiences that will shape your next chapter.

Choose What Matters Most Before Year End

Review your remaining goals and commitments. Identify what must be completed, what could still produce meaningful progress, and what needs to be reconsidered. Be honest about your available time, energy, and resources.

Select a small number of priorities for the remainder of the quarter. You might focus on completing client projects, promoting one profitable service, and organizing your customer communication process. Give each priority a clear outcome and a next action you can schedule.

For example, “Improve my marketing” is difficult to act on. “Prepare and send three emails introducing my holiday service package” gives you a specific assignment. Finishing strong begins with deciding what you can realistically complete and giving that work consistent attention.

Keep Current Opportunities Moving

Before creating another offer, review the opportunities already connected to your business. Look at unanswered inquiries, proposals awaiting decisions, past customer requests, and conversations you agreed to continue.

Choose the appropriate next step for each opportunity. Send the promised information, answer a question, or invite a prospect to discuss an offer that fits her needs. Existing customers may also appreciate learning about a relevant service or product, especially when it helps them address a seasonal concern.

Review your holiday campaign as well. Confirm your offer, audience, promotion dates, and purchasing instructions. Make sure your delivery commitments match your actual capacity. A campaign is easier to manage when you know how many orders or projects you can fulfill well.

Begin With the Experiences You Want in 2027

Before writing another list of annual goals, pause and consider the experiences you want to create. What would a fulfilling business year feel like? How would you spend your workdays? What would you have more time to enjoy?

You may want to experience calmer mornings, more consistent income, deeper customer relationships, or greater freedom to spend time with family. Perhaps you want to lead a group program, serve a new community, or finish your workday without carrying unfinished administrative tasks into the evening.

Write your desired experiences in plain language. “I want to begin my week knowing what matters most” tells you something valuable about the structure you need. “I want customers to receive timely, thoughtful service” points toward the processes your business must support. Let yourself explore before deciding on numbers and deadlines.

Connect Those Experiences to Your Vision

Once you have described the experiences you want, ask what would need to change to support them. More time with family might require clearer appointment boundaries or help with routine tasks. More consistent income might require a focused offer, regular marketing, and a dependable sales process.

Consider a business owner who wants to stop rushing through every client project. Her vision might include a manageable client schedule, clear delivery timelines, and organized project information. That vision can guide decisions about pricing, workload, systems, and support.

Notice which priorities emerge repeatedly. These can help shape your annual goals, quarterly goals, and eventually your first three monthly goals for 2027. You do not have to finalize the entire plan today; begin by understanding what you want your goals to make possible.

Give Today and Tomorrow Their Own Time

Put your remaining Q4 priorities on the calendar first, including customer commitments and the activities that support your current income goals. Then reserve a separate, manageable period for reflection and planning.

You might spend thirty minutes each Friday reviewing your desired 2027 experiences and recording ideas. Keep those ideas in one place so they do not become competing daily assignments. Return to them during your planning time and decide which deserve further attention.

Also account for holidays, rest, and personal responsibilities. Planning every available hour as if nothing unexpected will happen creates unnecessary pressure. Leave room to adjust while protecting your most important commitments.

Take a Faithful Next Step

Galatians 6:9 encourages us to persevere in doing good without losing heart. As you reflect on your business, bring both your unfinished work and your future desires before God in prayer. Ask for wisdom to recognize what deserves your attention and courage to act on what becomes clear.

This week, write down your three most important remaining Q4 priorities. Schedule one action for each. Then describe three experiences you want to have in 2027 and identify one business change that could support each experience.

Meaningful progress is still possible this year. Serve the customers before you, give current opportunities thoughtful attention, and begin preparing for the life and business you want to build. Each purposeful step can help you finish 2026 with greater clarity and approach 2027 with direction.
